How are we going to run our food system without cheap oil? The price of oil is extremely volatility these days and there are no signs this is changing in the near future. This has a profound impact on our food system. Rebecca Hosking tries to find out how she could run her family farm with the least amount of energy possible while still producing enough food to earn a living. In this documantary you can follow her quests.

Questions I have after I saw this: could this permaculture way of producing food scale up and have a bigger impact?

What could conventional farms learn from it? Can they implement concepts tomorrow and see the benefits soon?

How can we improve the economics of farming (the profits of farmers), not by improving the yields but getting the costs (energy, fertilizer, pesticides, etc.) down?

We need more people thinking about business models and development. Instead of always wanting to invent the next technology breakthrough, we have to focus on the business models and systems to use these breakthroughs in real life. So much is possible from a technical point of view, but usually the business model to bring it to scale is not there. Let’s not waist our time finding new solutions, but take the current ones, experiment to improve, and get it to scale!

The concept of M.Paani is fascinating because it doesn’t speak about technology hardware etc. but only about a scalable business model. And yes this has to be tested and checked etc. but these kind of innovations are the ones we need!
